# Ohnward Fine Arts Center

> A community-built performing arts center in Maquoketa, Iowa, featuring the 841-seat Kopel Theatre and Drew Art Gallery. Built with over 95,000 volunteer hours and $900,000 in donations, opened December 2004. A 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

## About

The Ohnward Fine Arts Center was built by the people of Maquoketa without a single city or school tax dollar. Gary Drew and his wife Marilyn purchased the 3-acre parcel in 1998, and construction began in 1999. Dr. James and Harlene Kopel made a major donation, giving the theatre its name. John Fagerland and Edward Tubbs contributed matching funds for a Vision Iowa grant, and the facility was named in their honor.

The 29,800 square foot center features:
- **Kopel Theatre**: 841 permanent seats, 35x70 stage, 4 dressing rooms, Yamaha Conservatory Grand piano, 12,000 watt sound system, computer-controlled lighting
- **Drew Art Gallery**: 3,600 square foot exhibition area with 850 sq ft display wall space
- Both spaces are available for rental
